World of Symbolism vs. World of Substance

Given the title of this post, you might be expecting some great philosophical discussion of symbolism and substance in our world. If you are, then you are going to be disappointed. I will point out that our modern world seems to be geared more toward the symbolic than to the substantive. Social media has those of us who take on our own risks by daring to be self employed believing that we just need to do more networking on social media in order to gain more clients and boost our incomes.

IT IS A MYTH!

No one on social media sites is paying any attention to anything anyone else is doing. They certainly aren't going to Facebook or Twitter to find your business. You could send out 1000 tweets every day and gain nothing more than a headache from the effort you put into it. You could hammer your friends and family on Facebook, overwhelm the groups you belong to with constant announcements about what you do and what you offer and do nothing but piss people off.

HERE IS THE REALITY!

I am a writer. I ghostwrite, write content for web sites, write blog posts, write articles, write e-books and write whatever needs written. What that means is that I spend my time writing, which is a work of substance, rather than spending my time networking among people who do not care what I do or how I do it.

HERE IS THE BOTTOM LINE!

If you need my writing expertise, then I will focus my efforts on writing for you rather than spending my time chasing after my next client. In this world of superficial symbolism, I am a person of substance who does what he does, does it well and moves onto the next job.
